Beginning therapy can bring a mixture of feelings and questions. This page offers a little more about what working together might look like, whether we meet online or in person, alongside the practical arrangements and therapeutic agreements that help create a safe, consistent and confidential relationship.
Therapy is collaborative, and we can talk openly about what feels helpful, what you need from our work and any questions or concerns that arise along the way.
We will usually meet at the same time each week, creating continuity and allowing our therapeutic relationship to develop over time.
I suggest beginning with 12 weekly sessions, with time to review our work approximately every six sessions. This gives us an opportunity to reflect on how therapy is feeling, what may be changing, and what you would like to focus on next. Some people find it helpful to work towards particular goals; others prefer to explore broader intentions, hopes or emerging needs.
There is no set limit to the number of sessions you can have. We can continue working together for as long as therapy remains helpful, reviewing our work regularly and discussing together when the time feels right to bring therapy to an end.
Face-to-face sessions take place in my private garden therapy room in rural Pevensey, East Sussex, offering a quiet and confidential setting away from the busyness of everyday life. There may also be an opportunity to offer you therapy at consulting rooms in Saint Leonards on Sea.
Working together in person can give us greater freedom to work with creative tools.). Alongside talking, we might use objects, imagery, art materials, movement or body awareness, or step outside and draw on the natural environment when this feels helpful. There is no expectation to work creatively — these are simply possibilities we can explore together.
Your privacy is important. The therapy room provides a confidential setting where we can talk without interruption, and anything discussed within our sessions is treated confidentially within the professional and safeguarding boundaries of my practice
I offer online therapy nationally and internationally, with appointments available between 8am and 7pm UK time.
Online therapy can offer flexibility in the comfort of being in your own surroundings. To get the most from our sessions, it is important to find a private, comfortable space where you are unlikely to be interrupted or overheard, and where you can speak freely.
You will also need a reliable internet connection and a device positioned somewhere you can sit comfortably for the session. Headphones can be helpful where privacy is limited.
As some of our work may involve emotions, body awareness or grounding practices, I encourage you to allow yourself a little quiet time before and after the session, where possible, rather than having to rush immediately into your next commitment.
Online therapy can also be creative and experiential. I often encourage keeping a therapy journal and, if it appeals to you, creating your own small therapy box with objects, images or art materials that feel meaningful. We can draw on these within our sessions for creative and somatic exploration, and they can become useful resources for reflection between sessions
Our Therapeutic Agreement
A clear therapeutic agreement helps us establish a safe, confidential and consistent foundation for our work together. Before we begin, I will ask you to read and sign an agreement covering confidentiality, privacy, appointments, cancellations and how we will work together.
Confidentiality is central to the therapeutic relationship. What you share with me is treated confidentially, within the ethical and safeguarding limits explained in our agreement. I also undertake regular clinical supervision, where my therapeutic work can be reflected upon confidentially to support safe and ethical practice.
I am an accredited member of the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) and work within its ethical framework and professional standards.
Before therapy begins, I will also ask for some essential information, including emergency/next-of-kin contact details. Personal information and therapeutic records are stored and handled in accordance with UK GDPR and data-protection requirements, with further details provided in my Privacy Policy.
Please feel free to reach out and book a discovery call. Book a free 20 minute consultation below to talk through your wellbeing and what you would like to bring to therapy. We can meet online so you can get a sense of how we can work together.
